Divesite: The wreck of the Cruz del Sur is one of the more impressive deep artificial reefs off South Florida.  As the sinking of the Cruz del Sur was a joint project between Miami-Dade and Broward Counties, the former freighter was deployed basically on the border of the two counties and less than one mile south of the Tenneco Towers site. The Cruz sits upright and intact, with her forward kingposts reaching to within 140 feet of the surface. Due to her location approximately seven miles south of Port Everglades, visibility is generally excellent over the wreck. While the cargo holds are largely bare, aside from some scattered hatch covers resting under a layer of fine silt, the decks of the wreck are adorned by a colorful layer of invertebrate growth, which hosts swarms of small tropical fish.
