HISTORY

  • The yacht was given to Vietnamese Emperor Bao Dai by the French government sometime after World War II in an attempt to appease the puppet leader.

  • Most of its life operated as a charter boat out of Antigua

Name History:

  • Panda (1938)

  • Jay Dorman (Divesite)

Divesite

The reef was named after 23‐year old Jay Dorman, who, in May 1987, was killed along with Randy Barber by a lightning strike after the pair sought shelter under a tree during a storm on a Fort Lauderdale golf course. The Jay Dorman is part of a small cluster of other vessels sunk as artificial reefs, which can be Visited on the same dive, including the Qualmann Tugs and the Alpha. Due to Hurricanes, all of these wrecks have deteriorated considerably, but still offer a pleasant diving experience.
