HISTORY
-
Launched: 1960, as a Haitian Freighter.
-
Along its history, it appeared to make more illicit cargo runs than legitimate ones towards the end of her career.
-
May 19, 1997: it became disabled and was towed into the Miami anchorage area. The US. Coast Guard conducted a boarding and found 14 Haitian citizens aboard, only 6 of which were documented as crew members. The US. Immigration and Naturalization Service identified those who were not documented and deported them on May 20.
-
November 1, 2001, US. Customs Service discovered 12.8 pounds of cocaine smuggled in the helm stand. The vessel was seized by the US. Government.
Divesite:
The Broward County Artificial Reef Program paid $10,000 for the ship, which then cleaned and striped the Eben‐Ezer II. On May 14, 2002, the ship was scuttled in 70 feet of water south of Port Everglades.
