On June 6, 2009, the dry cargo freighter Miss Lourdies was scuttled as the ”Miracle of Life” artificial reef site off Boca Raton. The vessel is upright and intact, with the top of the wheelhouse first encountered at a depth of 100 feet, the deck at 125 feet, and the sand at a depth 140 feet. The Haitian-flagged freighter was acquired for use as an artificial reef after US. Customs Service agents found a steel compartment hiding almost 340 pounds of cocaine during a June 26, 2008, inspection at the Port of Miami. The vessel was originally built in 1972 as the off shore supply vessel Safe Tide by Burton Shipyard, Incorporated at Port Arthur, Texas. She was 165 feet in length, 38.4 feet in breadth, and displaced 649 tons gross. She later sailed as the Norpac III , Sea Bird, and finally, Miss Lourdies.
