HISTORY

On June 15, 1955, the coaster Henny T. (IMO number 5147724) was launched by Scheepswerf Gebr. Muller at Yard 97 in Foxhol, Netherlands. The new freighter was 493 tons gross burden, 169.2 feet long, and 27.9 feet wide. In 1975, the coaster was sold, renamed Macvac A., and was reflagged in the Caribbean county of St. Vincent. She changed names again in 1988, when she sailed as Ebbtide. Her career quickly ended later that year, however, when the U S . Customs Service discovered an illicit cargo of marijuana hidden on board the vessel. The freighter was sold at auction and prepared for use as an artificial reef. The coaster was renamed Papa's Wreck by John Yates in memory of his grandfather, Muncy Yates. On May 14, 1989, the former Ebbtide was scuttled in 260 feet of water off Hillsboro Inlet during the Pompano Beach Fishing Rodeo. The Papa’s Wreck sits upright and intact in just over 270 feet of water.
