The Rio Miami was originally a tug built as the Brant for the Curtis Bay Towing Corporation.  In March 1971, the tug was sold to Moran Towing and renamed Barbara Moran. The vessel initially worked in Moran’s New York fleet, and later served with the company’s Puerto Rico and Jacksonville operations. The Barbara Moran was eventually tied up at Jacksonville with a broken crank shaft, which prompted Moran to donate the tug for use asan artificial reef. RenamedRioMiami, the vessel was scuttled in 65feet of water off Key Biscayne on November 28, 1989. The tug is upright and intact, but listing approximately 45degrees to her starboard side. Rebar stakes lead off the bow of the Rio Miami to the wreck of the nearby Paraiso III .
