HISTORY
The Star Trek was originally built during World War II as one of 558 amphibious vessels known asa LandingShip, Medium (LSM). Similar to the Lakeland (formerly LSM‐ 373), the Star Trek was 203.5 feet in length, 34.5 feet in beam, and displaced 520tons when empty. Unfortunately, the particulars of this vessel are currently unknown, aside from the fact she was converted after the war for commercial freight service. On July 27,1982, the former LSM was scuttled in 210 feet of water off Miami to serve asan artificial reef. The wreck is resting on her side, and it appears the influence of Hurricane Andrew in 1992 rolled the freighter over, significantly damaging her superstructure, though the vessel rolled back onto her side as the storm moved inland.
