Launched from the Flensburg, Germany shipyard of Flensburger Schifi‘bau-Gesellschaft in 1966, the Sylvina Express (IMO number 6608880) was a coastal freighter 196.8 feet in length, 34.2 feet in beam, and 299 tons gross displacement. Duringher career she changed names and owners several times: in 1973 she was sold to Nico Ka‘hler of Kiel, Germany, and renamed Tiger; acquired by Danish owners P.R. Korsor, P. Jorgensen and Company in 1985, the freighter sailed as Anna Nova; in 1990, the vessel was sold to Rederiet Cito LS. and renamed Cito; purchased in 1994, the freighter was renamed Dimar B. by her n e w Panamanian owners, Interocean Shipping International; later, she was acquired by owners A. Valburn of Belize and finally sailed as Sylvina Express II. The Sylvina Express H was later seized after an anonymous tip led US. Customs Service agents to search the masts of the freighter after it arrived in the Miami River from Cap-Haitien, Haiti in November 1999, which led to the discovery of 832 pounds of cocaine in plastic-wrapped bricks. In 2000, the freighter was offered at auction, and ultimately was scuttled as an artificialreefoffPalmBeachonJuly18,2003. In addition to the freighter, an approximately 30-foot long dissected portion of another vessel w a s placed on deck of the Sylvina Express II . The coastal freighter n o w sits upright and intact in approximately 280 feet of water, with portions rising over 40 feet from the bottom.
