HISTORY

As a memorial to Mike Kevorkian, owner of the Tarpoon Skin Diving Center in Miami, the 150‐foot long former Haitian grain freighter Medor Herode was scuttled in 70feet of water on May 10, 1988. The freighter was significantly impacted by Hurricane Andrew in 1992. The Tarpoon was moved several hundred feet against the base of a reef, which ultimately broke the freighter into several large pieces. Due to wreck’s proximity to the reef, the scattered debris is typically enveloped in schools of grunts, glassy sweepers, and snappers.
