The Te Amo was a 78.5‐foot long, 97-ton auxiliary diesel ketch built in 1925 by J.W. Upham in Brixham, England as the commercial fishing trawler Terpsichore. She operated as a fishing vessel for several years, and in December 1930 was renamed Manequim following an overhaul. In 1946, novelist A.E.W. Mason purchased the Mannequin and converted her to a yacht, which he named Mariel Stephens. The yacht was eventually sailed to Vancouver, British Columbia, where she resided for some time before being purchased by Carlton Rogers and moved south to California. During the 19605, the yacht was repaired and refurbished at considerable cost. The sailboat eventually migrated to St. Thomas, US. Virgin Islands in the 1970s, where she sailed as the charter yacht Te Amo. OnMay16, 1985, the yacht Te Amo ended her long journey when she was sunk in approximately 200 feet of water off Fort Lauderdale.
